Dance is not only a great and enjoyable art form, but it also gives an outlet to your feelings and emotions, it helps you break free and express yourself and is also good for your health. A study was conducted, to research and prove the positive effects of dancing on health and self image. For this study, 112 girls between the age of 13 to 19 years who had reported of frequent headaches, depression, fatigue and body pain were chosen. These girls were divided into 2 groups randomly, 59 girls in group A and the remaining 53 girls into group B. Girls in group A, danced together regularly, for two days per week, while group B carried on with their regular lifestyle and did not dance. The girls of Group A observed amazing benefits of dancing, they remained energetic and happy, it also had a positive effect on their health, they displayed an increase in self esteem and self worth and showed a positive attitude towards life. This metal, physical and behavioural change was however, not observed in group B.

A lot of research has been done on this subject and it has been concluded that dance helps maintain good health, stay happy, helps express emotions in an uninhibited manner and keeps you in high spirits. Those who dance regularly have a better capacity to handle daily responsibilities, they do not succumb to the pressures at home and office, they face difficult situations with a clear mind and exhibit great focus and strength. Dancing is also a form of exercise, it keeps your body in shape and your skin healthy and glowing, thus boosting your self confidence.

Dance is now rapidly evolving as a form of therapy, it is instrumental in improving the condition of patients suffering from mental disorders. Many mental asylums, rehabilitation centres as well as centres for the vision impaired have adopted dancing as a part of their health promotion programmes. Any dance form is good, you can start learning a new dance form to keep the interest alive or join a salsa class with your spouse. However, it is not necessary to enrol at a coaching centre, just put on some music and enjoy, let your body sway to the tunes and flow with the rhythm. Enjoy with your partner or friends and it will help you release all the stress and enjoy good health.
